Maxi skirts are back: Here’s how to wear long skirts for 2023

While short skirts are still enjoying a mini revival, the maxi skirt is back again for this year.

If the itty-bitty mini skirts that have been seen across the catwalk and high street fill you with dread, you’ll be glad to know that the maxi skirt is back with a bang. Seen on the catwalks of Khaite, Tibi, Michael Kors, and Givenchy, lean and long is where it’s at for the forthcoming season.

The maxi skirt for 2023

As well as meaning you don’t have to shave your legs (always a win in our books), the maxi skirt is easy to wear for both day and night and suits all body shapes. This time around, they're less boho and more minimalist. Think sleek, long column skirts and minimal detailing.

Choose a simple silhouette and you can accessorise it in a variety of ways to get maxi-mum wear! Here are some of our favourite maxi skirts for 2023, with tips on how to wear them.

Maxi skirts are back - Nobody's Child bias cut silk maxi skirt

NOBODY’S CHILD SLIP SKIRT, £45

If you want to dip your toe into the maxi skirt trend for the first time, you can’t beat a simple black slip skirt. Made from a mixture of Lenzing Ecovero and Viscose, this silky skirt will easily become your go-to for all occasions. Team with a strappy sandal and camisole tap for an elegant evening ensemble or add high-tops and an oversized sweatshirt for a casually chic look.

Maxi skirts are back - Aligne denim maxi skirt

ALIGNE MAXI DENIM SKIRT, £75

Jennifer Lopez was snapped wearing a maxi denim skirt recently, making it winter appropriate by teaming it with a roll neck sweater and ankle boots. And that’s the beauty of a denim maxi, as come summer, it’s a cooler (quite literally) alternative to jeans but with all the versatility of your favourite denim. Team with a simple vest and flat sandals for a totally laidback look.

Maxi skirts are back - Free People Maxi skirt set

FREE PEOPLE SWEATER SET, £88

Knitted ribbed maxi skirts are so of the moment and if you choose one made from cotton rather than wool, you can still indulge in this trend with a clear conscious. You get double bubble for your money with this cute outfit. Worn together the top and skirt create a lengthening effect, while both can be worn separately to maximise wardrobe potential.

Maxi skirts are back - Scamp & Dude Maxi Skirt

SCAMP AND DUDE ZEBRA PRINT SKIRT, £78

Made with EcoVero Viscose, this skirt is for those who like to make an impression. The bright pop of teal mixed with the zebra and lightning bolt fabric is a must if you’re looking to add some color and print into your wardrobe. The tiered shape is super flattering and, bonus, this maxi skirt can also be pulled up and worn as a bandeau dress.

Maxi Skirts are back - Naayib Olive maxi skirt

NAAYIB DRAWSTRING MAXI SKIRT, £49

If you’re looking for something that little bit swishier, this is it. Made by ethical brand Naayib, the drawstring ribbon waist gives it a little something extra, which is just crying out for a top to be tucked in! Great for more formal occasions, team with other neutral shades for a stylish outfit.

Maxi skirts are back - Zimmerman Maxi skirt with fringing

ZIMMERMANN MACRAMÉ-TRIMMED MAXI SKIRT, £595

Fringing is set to be a big trend for 2023, and this skirt, panelled with broderie anglaise swishes with every step. Perfect for holidays in Ibiza (or the UK) team with a voluminous cotton blouse for a true boho look.

Maxi skirts are back - Good American faux leather maxi skirt

GOOD AMERICAN FAUX LEATHER MAXI SKIRT, £214

Traditionally thought of as a more boho style, this skirt proves that the maxi length can also be super glam and sexy. Definitely one to team with knee high boots and a super simple top to allow it to take centre forward, the great thing about Good American is that all their clothes come in a huge range of sizes.
